General Liability Insurance

General liability insurance helps cover costly claims that can come up during normal business operations. Be aware that general liability insurance doesn’t cover every kind of claim. Here are some examples.

  • Third-party Bodily Injury

If a customer gets hurt after slipping and falling in your store, they can sue your business. Your insurance policy includes bodily injury liability coverage, so it can help pay for their medical bills.

  • Third-party Property Damage

If you or your employees work at a client’s house, your business faces a risk of causing property damage. Property damage liability coverage can help cover repair or replacement costs if your business damages someone else’s belongings.

  • Reputation Harm

Someone can sue your business for libel or slander because of something you or your employees said. If this happens, general liability insurance can help cover your legal costs to defend your business.

  • Advertising Injury

Your business can get sued for copyright infringement. For example, a photographer can sue you if you use their photo in your ads without permission.

Other Commercial Policies

  • Workers Compensation

A type of business insurance that provides benefits to employees who suffer work-related injuries or illnesses. Specifically, this insurance helps pay for medical care, wages from lost work time and more. Workers’ compensation insurance benefits can vary by state.

  • Commercial Auto

A policy of physical damage and liability coverages for amounts, situations, and usage not covered by a personal auto insurance policy. This type of business insurance covers many types of commercial vehicles – from automobiles used for business purposes, including company cars, to a wide variety of commercial trucks and vehicles.

  • Commercial Property

One of the most common types of business insurance is commercial property insurance, which provides a wide range of coverage for buildings, inventory, equipment, tools, and more. Losses from fire, break-in, vandalism, wind, and other natural or manmade disasters are examples of what is typically covered.

  • Business Owners Policy

Provides both property and liability coverage for eligible small businesses. BOPs are written on special coverage forms that are generally very similar to their monoline property and liability form counterparts, but they typically have some unique features that make them especially advantageous for businesses that qualify.

  • E&O (Errors & Omissions)

E&O insurance generally protects service businesses from errors and/or omissions made by a business owner, employee, or contractor working on behalf of the company.

  • Commercial Umbrella

Provides an extra layer of liability protection by covering costs that go beyond your other liability coverage limits. In other words, commercial umbrella insurance complements your other liability coverages by taking over when your other liability coverage limits have been reached.

  • Builders Risk

Also known as course of construction insurance, this specialized type of property insurance helps protect buildings under construction.

  • Inland Marine

Covers any property that is movable, transportable, or involved in transferring information. Examples include contractor’s equipment, valuable artwork, food trucks, or cargo vans.

  • Cyber Liability and Data Breach

Covers financial losses that result from data breaches and other cyber events. Policies vary widely because most insurers that offer cyber coverage use forms they've developed themselves. Many policies include both first- party and third-party coverages.
